Without doubt, the most exciting prospects of the coming ninth
season of competition are continued anticipated growth and an
evenly poised league contest at both senior and junior levels.
The management committee of the South East Women's Football
Association have directed their off season efforts towards the
achievement of a number of strategic initiatives.
First and foremost has been the establishment of junior playing
sides at both Portland and United. If this target is realised,
the sport of football for women and girls here in the South
East will have witnessed a phenomenal growth rate of over 300%
since its humble beginnings in 2003.
In terms of an evenly poised league contest, I am ready to
declare my hand when, at the time of writing, pre-season training
and player registration (allegiance) may not even have commenced
in some instances. My prediction is that this year's top-four
contenders will include at least two teams that did not feature
in last season's final play-offs. But don't ask me who.
Many thanks to our continued and highly valued sponsorship
partners. Without their support, the league would not have reached
the level of professionalism and community respect that it enjoys.
My thanks to the management committees of the WBSA and the
SEWFA for their commitment, support, planning, preparation and
guidance. Thanks also, in anticipation, to the officials of
the Limestone Coast Football Referees Association for their
continued support and reciprocated respect.
As always, good luck to all teams. I'm sure that all players,
coaches, parents and supporters will continue to represent the
South East Women's Football Association with integrity and a
sense of fair play. That, after all, is what has got us to where
we are now.
